Single Line of Text Column for a Documents library
We have already discussed the procedure of creating a Column in document library in one of our previous tutorials. In this tutorial, we will know the details of the most basic type of column in document library “Single Line of Text Column”.
In regard to Single Line of Text column, it’s known that virtually every SharePoint list starts with this column type. Possibly, it’s the most commonly used column type within SharePoint lists and hence is also referred as the primary or title column. While going to create Single Line of Text column, it must be known that there are very few customization options.
However, it’s up to you to select whether the specific column is actually required or is optional.
You can also limit total number of characters that can be entered by a user so that users do not enter unnecessary data in a specific column. Additionally, you do have the option of specifying a default value which can be entered by users manually or which can be calculated by SharePoint.
Once you have selected the data to use for any of your columns, you can configure additional attributes quite easily for it. These attributes, or say column properties, in a way describe how the specific column will behave.
There are several attributes based on whatever data type you choose for your column. However, there are several common properties that can apply to any of the data type.
