SharePoint 2016 Architectural Models
This tutorial describes the different architectural models for SharePoint 2016 that business decision makers as well as solutions architects must know about.
Let’s take an overview of the available architectural models –
SharePoint on-premises :-
In this model, you get the absolute freedom to plan, deploy, maintain, as well as customize your entire SharePoint environment in a specific datacenter maintained by you.
SharePoint Hybrid :-
In this model, you pool together your SharePoint Online subscription along with your on-premises SharePoint. Depending on your need, you can incorporate the available SharePoint Online services very easily into your SharePoint offering and accordingly go for following –
- Build SaaS management skills within your organization
- Move all your SharePoint sites as well as apps to cloud at the pace of your choice
SharePoint in Azure/IaaS :-
You get to extend your on-premises SharePoint environment into Azure IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and then deploy SharePoint 2016 servers. It must be explained here that this is especially recommended for following environments –
- High availability/disaster recovery
SharePoint Online/SaaS :-
You get to deploy SharePoint via Software as a Service subscription model. In this model, SharePoint will remain always up to date; however, you will be completely responsible for managing it on your own.
