How to edit a list or library using Quick Edit – SharePoint 2013

One important point to be remembered while uploading files in large numbers is that you do not get a prompt to complete the metadata for every item. Leaving metadata incomplete can impact searches negatively and so users may have a hard time locating your documents within a library.

The most effective way to quickly update multiple items is to make use of the Quick Edit option. This command allows you to update required document metadata in the manner that is almost similar to updating a new spreadsheet in Excel. Quick Edit is extremely useful when you need to update metadata in bulk.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to use Quick Edit for editing a SharePoint Document Library.

Step 1 :

Go to your Site main page. Next, select Documents link as visible from side navigation bar

Step 2 :

Select Library tab from ribbon.

Step 3 :

Select the option “Quick Edit

Step 4 :

Update columns, as required

Step 5 :

Once changes are complete, click “View” option available in the Library tab to return to original view

That’s how you can temporarily change a standard SharePoint document library view straight away to Quick Edit view. Doing this allows you to make updates to the metadata related with all of the documents that are within your document library.
