Periodically checking your site collection usage in SharePoint 2013 and accordingly making comparisons with the capacity limits, quotas etc. is always considered a good practice. In order to check your SharePoint 2013 site collection usage, you must have access to Central Administration.

Following are the steps to easily check the usage of your SharePoint 2013 Site Collection –

Step 1 :

Go to Central Administration > Application Management

Step 2 :

Under Site Collections, click “Configure Quotas and Locks”

Step 3 :

In the “Site Collection Quotas and Locks” page, choose a Site Collection from the dropdown by clicking “Change Site Collection”

Step 4 :

In the “Select Site Collection” Webpage dialog box, ensure that correct web application service is selected. Next, highlight the site collection. In our case, we have highlighted the root site collection. Click OK to save

Step 5 :

Again in the “Site Collection Quotas and Locks” page, browse downwards to the section where it says “Current Storage Used” to know the exact usage of that site collection. In our case, it shows 6 MB.

That’s how you can check site collection usage in SharePoint 2013. For more details on SharePoint, you can go through other tutorials on the topic or simply subscribe to our blog.
