How To Check Out a Document In SharePoint Library
Checking out a SharePoint library document greatly minimizes the possible chances of version conflicts. It’s because of the reason that at a specific time only one person will be able to make changes to that document.
At the instant, when a SharePoint document is checked out, it’s only the user checking it out who has the access to edit that document.
In this tutorial, we will know how to check out a document from a SharePoint document library.
Following are the steps for the same –
Step 1 :
Go to your Site’s main page
Step 2 :
From the side navigation bar, select the “Documents” link
Step 3 :
Select the checkmark available on the left of whatever document you would like to edit. Completing this action will select the file and enable some features that are only available for easily interacting with this specific selected document on the ribbon.
Step 4 :
Select “Check Out” option available under the ribbon’s “Files” tab. You will get a message/prompt informing you that you are going to check out a particular document
Step 5 :
Finally, click OK. This will check the document out. You will see that the document icon now has a green arrow right next to it.
That’s how you can check out a SharePoint library document.
Please note that you should not select the checkbox saying “Use my local drafts folder” as this option will download the selected file for local system storage for offline access.
