How to Add a Site Column to Parent Content Type

For every document that has been created within your organization, tracking its confidentiality rating may be a priority for you. It may not be that realistic to update each & every single library manually with this column. Also, it’s not going to be practical enough to add the column manually to each content type. Hence, you can go for creating a column named “Confidentiality Rating” to content type AW Document. All of your organization’s other document-based content types will be inheriting from that specific content type.
 

So, all the existing & new content types will get created with that column.

Step 1:

Go to Columns section of administration page of AW Document content type, first click “Add from new site column.”
 

Step 2:

Next, enter your new column’s details as follows

Step 3:

  • Finally click OK. This will save your column.
  • You will be redirected to content type administration page. Your new column will now appear in the column listing. Also, you can notice that on visiting the Sales Proposal content type, new column is appearing in the listing.
