Date and Time Column in SharePoint

Every list in SharePoint, by default, includes “Date & Time” column that helps to track when a specific item was firstly created or was last modified.
You may though have to add suitable columns including date & time information as many of the items that are tracked in a SharePoint list have certain level of time relevance like –

  • Expiration date
  • Review date
  • Completion date

Beyond the options that help to determine whether this date & time column is actually needed and that help to add a description, it’s your choice to have the column show only a specific date or time value.

It should be understood here that time values are especially useful in following cases –

  • If you intend to have your list information displayed in the daily calendar view or
  • If you define critical details on events like meetings or appointments

You can select to display the date value in either of the following formats –

  • Standard format
  • Friendly format

You can even leverage the option of using a calculation for default value.
We hope this tutorial explains the concept of Date & Time column fully.
