How To Create A View Based On Already Existing View

In some typical situations, a single SharePoint list or library may include multiple views that though may be similar but have minor differences for meeting specific information requirements. So, in that case, rather than creating a new view right from scratch, you can make use of an existing view as the starting point and later on alter it to meet your precise needs.

By creating a totally new view from one of the existing views, you can use the starting view’s entire configuration settings as baseline for your new view. Using this feature can prove to be a big timesaver, as you will get access to many views differing on just a couple of configuration points.

Following are the steps to create a view based on existing view –

Step 1 :-

Select “Create View” option from your Tasks list

Step 2 :-

Under the listed view types, you can get the heading “Start from Existing View” with any of the views that are currently available for your SharePoint list. Next, select an existing view to start the process of building your custom view. Select Tasks Tracking view for this example.

Step 3 :-

Now, you need to specify a view name. Also define any unique properties of this new view that were missing in previous view.

Step 4 :-

Click OK. This will complete creating the view.

That’s how you can create a view based on existing view
