Choice Column Type in SharePoint
The Choice column type allows you to define a complete list of values which users can select according to their requirement. You can enter all values simply by placing each of the defined values on a separate line.
It will be visible to users in any of the following forms –
- A usual drop-down list
- A radio buttons set
- A series of checkboxes
A set of radio buttons or simply a drop-down list means that users will have the leverage to select only one option. However, checkboxes will allow users to select multiple items from the available list of values.
It’s also your choice to specify whether users will have the option to fill their own item in case an appropriate value is not appearing in the provided list. Whatever value they enter will be related with the existing list item; however, the same will not get added to the available list of choices that exist for the column.
The choice data type proves to be a great option in case you want users to select some value from a manageable list of multiple items.
If you ever find that your current choice selection is becoming quite tedious to use or manage Managed Metadata column type is the alternative for the same.
