Know More About Available and Required in SCCM
System Center Configuration Manager (SSCM) is also termed as ConfigMgr 2012 or ConfigMgr 2007 or ConfigMgr. A product by Microsoft, SSCM is a software meant for systems management. It is responsible for the management of a chain of systems that are operating on Windows NT, Windows Embedded, OS X, Linux or UNIX and Windows Phone, Symbian, iOS and Android mobile operating systems. This serves as a Configuration Manager that renders services like patch management, software distribution, operating system deployment, network access protection as well as hardware and software inventory.
Depending upon the type of deployment you choose for an application or a software in SCCM, they are categorized as Available or Required applications in SCCM. It is entirely on the user to choose the type of deployment he or she wants to use. User can opt for either of the two by making changes in the Deployment Settings in the deploy software wizard. This will determine the kind of deployment that would take place for the application or the software.
The settings include two options, namely Deployment Action and Deployment Purpose. Under the settings of Deployment Action, there are options to “Install” and “Uninstall” the application. It gives the user a chance to install or uninstall the applications as per their requirement. It could vary with time as well as the need of the user.
In case the user deploys the application two times, that is, installing the application once and uninstalling it the other time, then it will be the installation setting which will hold substance. In the next step, the user needs to undertake the deployment purpose. The installation can take place right away by initiating the configuration process. Also, users can be reminded of sending a request to seek approval from the administrator.
Available: The published applications can be seen by the user in the Application Catalog only when the application is deployed to a user. Also, it can be requested on demand.
Required: As per the designed plan, deployment of the applications takes place automatically. The application deployment status of the application can be detected and spotted by the users throughout the process. Also, it can be installed by the users making use of the Software Center. There is an installation schedule for all the requisite applications which are installed automatically in case they are absent on the already downloaded applications.
