VMware vCenter Server 6.0 essentially requires a Platform Services Controller (PSC) which includes shared services such as vCenter Single Sign-On, Licensing and Certificate Management. Two implemetation models are available – embedded and external. Implementation of embedded PSC is done on same VM/host as vCenter Server and an external PSC is deployed on a isolated separate VM/host. VMware vCenter Server 6.0 (PSC 6)

This is a novice new installation in which we are going to create a new vCenter Single Sign-On domain. Give a Domain Name for vCenter Single Sign-On (e.g. vsphere.local). Ensure allotting and confirming a highly secure password for vCenter Single Sign-On administrator account. Allot a site name for this given instance of vCenter Single Sign-On and now click on [Next]. Kindly note: vCenter Single Sign-On Domain is not associated to your Microsoft Active Directory and is only used for vCenter Single Sign-On.

Accept, approve and/or simply configure the VMware vCenter Server 6.0 default ports . Few ports are not configurable & should be made available prior to installation. Choose the preferred storage path for installation and data. By default, product binaries are automatically installed over to C:\Program Files\VMware\ and data is saved/ stored in C:\ProgramData\VMware\. Select and click on [Next] to continue.

Now you are ready to install the External Platform Services Controller. Re-analyze and review the settings summary and click on [Install].

External Platform Services Controller (PCS 10)

The installer will commence to deploy only the Platform Services Controller components over to the VM/host. Monitor and track the complete installation progress.

The installer will initiate the Platform Services Controller component services over the VM/host. Track and monitor the initialization progress.

Platform Services Controller component services (PSC 12)

The setup of the Platform Services Controller has finished on the VM/host. Select and click on [Finish] and proceed to the next step of the setup installation process.

Lets continue installation process of VMware vCenter Server 6.0 with an External Platform Services Controller by setting up and installing the vCenter Server 6.0 services (inclusive of the vSphere Web Client) on its own VM/host.

VMware vCenter Server 6.0 has many prerequisites and supports various operating systems and databases. In this procedure, we are using Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 and Microsoft SQL 2014 Server. And A 64-bit ODBC System Data Source Name has earlier been established to our database using the SQL Native Client.

Automatically by default, VMware vCenter Server 6.0 runs in the Windows Local System Account. The installer will commence to deploy the components to the VM/host. Monitor the installation progress.

VMware vCenter Server 6.0 (PSC 26)

The installer will commence to start the installed services over the VM/host. Track and monitor the initialization progress.

VMware vCenter Server 6.0 (PSC 27)

The setup configuration of vCenter Server 6.0 with an External Platform Services Controller has finished. Now Click on [Launch vSphere Web Client] to login and configure the system. Please note: VMware vCenter Server 6.0 is installed in 60-day evaluation mode.

vCenter Server 6.0 (111)

On the VMware vSphere Web Client, offer the vCenter Single Sign-On administrator account developed and created during the installation. Then click on [Login].
