Reasons

Such cases occurs with ESXi hosts running on HP hardware with following versions of AMS:

  • hp-ams 500.9.6.0-12.434156
  • hp-ams-550.9.6.0-12.1198610
  • hp-ams 500.10.0.0-18.434156
  • hp-ams-550.10.0.0-18.1198610

Resolution & Solution

This is a known issue affecting ESXi 5.x.
To solve such matter, use among following options:

Note: In case up  scale o  ESXi host does not solve this issue, then manually upgrade the AMS version can also be performed.

  • To Upgrade to AMS version 10.0.1 and above refer the following :

  1. For more information on ESXi 5.0 and 5.1, visit : HP Agentless Management Service Offline Bundle for VMware ESXi 5.0 and vSphere 5.1.
  2. For more information on ESXi 5.5,  visit :  HP Agentless Management Service Offline Bundle for VMware vSphere 5.5.

  • In case you are upgrading to vSphere ESXi 5.5 Update 3, then you can visit site  available at VMware Downloads.

If you would like to work on  th i  issue, In case you do not want to upgrade, then  remove the package from all hosts that are running on one of the preceding AMS versions:

Note: In few cases, commands executing on the ESXi host fails with can’t fork . In such scenario, the virtual machines executing on the ESXi host needs to be powered off also the ESXi host is required to be rebooted.
Run the following command to examine the installed versions of AMS:

esxcli software vib list | grep ams

For removing the package from all the hosts running on these AMS versions perform the following steps:

  1. Log into the host using SSH. To know more, visit : Using ESXi Shell in ESXi 5.x and 6.0 (2004746).
  2. Execute this command to terminate the HP service (does not insist on reboot):/etc/init.d/hp-ams.sh stop
  3. Execute this command to remove the VIB:esxcli software vib remove -n hp-ams
  4. Restart or reboot the host.
