There could be several causes behind slowing down of the performance of QuickBooks such as, company data files size has become large and bulky. The computer may get stuck down with any unwanted data, unused accounts, list items, old transactions, etc.
What Makes your QuickBooks Run Slow?
But how will you get to know that your QuickBooks really has some issues? Following points can help you in this regard:
Performance Issue – When your company data files become unstable and sluggish, then you can see that your QuickBooks is taking quite a longer time to process. Or, it may crash or hang frequently. And now this is the time when you really have to think about condensing the file.
File Size – It is very difficult to analyze the exact file size limit. May be your company has got 2GB of memory limit. Usually, a company is designed to store more data.
So in that case, for premier files, the limit could be around 150 to 200 MB and for Pro, the files might slow down at around 90 to 100 MB. But, you should go by the performance and should not get worried about the file size.
Once you notice this, you can try the given below tips to increase the speed and performance of QuickBooks.
Tips to Speed Up QuickBooks Performance
Generally, users add new, faster, upgraded hardware to condense their files, but here are some amazing tips using which you could possibly increase the speed easily.
Tip No. 1 – Remove Unwanted Memorized Reports
There are several cases where we’ve seen that QuickBooks performance slow down if it contains a bulk of memorized reports. There are many users who have a habit of keeping lots of memorized reports over the years that is not required anymore.
So, you should get rid of those unwanted or un-required memorized reports that you don’t need anymore. We are not sure why this happens.
However, it seems that QuickBooks automatically pre-populates some of the information by itself in the memorized reports every time when you save the new transactions.
We’ve also seen that when a list of the memorized reports is removed or divided down, then the performance of the QuickBooks will increase significantly.
In order to delete unwanted memorized reports, you just need to click on Reports> Memorized Reports> then select Memorized Reports List. Now just right click on any of the unwanted reports and click on Delete Memorized Report.
Tip no. 2 – Turn-off the In-Built Search Indexing
This is the feature that comes to Turned-on by default and allows you to perform a quick search by using by pressing F3 on your keyboard.
But that quick search feature does not come for free – it will slow down the performance of other functions such as saving of the new transactions. This is actually a real issue that occurs with the very large files or to the 2013 version files.
In order to increase the performance, Turnoff the in-built search indexing in QuickBooks. Click on Edit> Preferences> Search> and then select Company Preferences. Now uncheck the Search Box or Search ‘Update Automatically’ Box (it depends on your version of QuickBooks).
Now rebuild your file and exit the application and then open it again. You will now notice that your QuickBooks is working faster than earlier.
Note: If the rebuild fails then your QuickBooks might get damaged or corrupt. In this case, you must follow Tip no. 4.
Tip No. 3 – Delete The TLG File
The TLG file is a transaction log file that QuickBooks creates and stores besides your main file automatically. TLG files are sometimes used in the recovery of the files if original files get deleted, but it does not mean that you require TLG files for QuickBooks to work in a correct manner. You can also delete it without worrying about any data loss.
We have seen most of the cases where TLG files are over 1GB and then it creates a problem and QuickBooks performance will slow down, particularly when you add the new transactions.
The easiest way to get rid of TLG files is to just create a verified backup of your files in QuickBooks. If you do this then the TLG files will get blank and it will start all over again.
Here follow the steps to create a verified backup:
Click on the File> Create Backup> Local Backup and then click on the Options button. You must make sure that you have select ‘Complete Verification’ and then complete the process of creating the backup.
Once the backup is created successfully, then the TLG files will be get reset to a blank file.
Note: You have to ensure that your automatic backup system is taking the backup of your TLG files rather than your QuickBooks (QBW) files if in case you want it later on. You can also manually take the backup of your TLG files and move it to another system.
Tip no. 4 – Avoid the Corruption
If your QuickBooks is corrupted then it can adversely affect the performance of QuickBooks and sometimes it might stop working or responding.
In this scenario, you can follow two solutions, the first solution is, you can create a portable data file and then restore it. And, the second solution is that you can also use a QuickBooks Repair Tool.
So, these are some of the useful tips and we hope by following the above important tips you will be able to enhance or speed up the performance of your QuickBooks. To derive more benefits, you can opt for QuickBooks cloud hosting and avail various benefits.
