Method of Adding a Web Part

 

Ensure that you have the necessary permissions as provided to the SharePoint group members for the site. Following are the steps you need to follow for adding Webpart to SharePoint page

1. Go to the ribbon of a page

2. Click the “Page” tab > Click the “Edit” option

In case you find the “Edit” option disabled, it implies that you still require permissions necessary to edit the page. You need to contact your administrator straight away.

3. Click the page where the Web Part needs to be added.

4. Click the Insert tab > Click “Web Part

Note that “About the Web Part” displays information about the Web Part that has been selected

5. From the “Categories” section, select a suitable category like “Lists and Libraries“. Then select the Web Part “Announcements” to be added to the page.

Click Add

6. Go to the “Page” tab and click “Save & Close

Moving a Web Part

Following steps will guide you through the process of moving a Web Part on a page –

1. Go to the ribbon of a page

2. Click the Page tab > Click the “Edit” option

3. Select the Web Part on page

4. Do following for a content page

  • Click “Cut” in “Format Text” tab OR Use Ctrl X keyboard shortcut as alternative.
  • Click the page where the Web Part needs to be moved
  • Click “Paste” in “Format Text” tab OR Use Ctrl V keyboard shortcut as alternative

5. Select the Web Part first and then drag it to desired page’s location

6. Go to the “Page” tab and click “Save & Close

Minimizing/Restoring a Web Part

If you find a specific page crowded, you can restore the Web Part as per requirement. Closing and reopening the page will again cause the Web Part to be minimized.

Following are the steps for minimizing a Web Part –

1. Go to the ribbon of a page

2. Click the Page tab > Click the “Edit” option

3. Point towards the Web Part on the page

4. Click the arrow pointing down, and then click “Minimize

5. Go to the “Page” tab and click “Save & Close
